Double Flange Track Wheels
Double Flange Track Wheels will have a flange angle of between 95 degrees and 98 degrees. This is so that when the flange meets the track, it does so at a small area – preventing high amounts of friction that can jam/seize the wheel.
Double Flange Wheels are made with the purpose of limiting lateral movement in both directions. As an axial load is applied in one direction, this causes the wheel (and payload) to move in that direction until the flange contacts the track and prevents further movement. Axial load in the other direction will move the wheel until the other flange is contacted.
This means that by design Double Flange Wheels are made to have some allowance for lateral movement built in, and may not be suitable for applications that require a high degree of precision in a lateral position.
Double Flange Wheels should be used in applications where there is only one point that limit sideways movement in either direction, for example a sliding door track. In this application Double Flange Wheels work very well as each direction of travel is limited by one of the flanges.
Another common application for Double Flange Track Wheels is a trolley travelling on two parallel tracks. In this example, two Double Flange Wheels are not recommended as each direction of travel is controlled by the inner flange on one wheel and the outer flange on the other. As well as this, if the track bendsor warps (which can be common over long distances), problems could arise where the tracks are not parallel and the glanges jam on both tracks.
Most of our standard Double Flange Wheels are to suit 50 x 60 SHS (Square Hollow Section), which typically has an R6 radius on the corners. The Groove Width is 2mm, allowing up to 4-8mm sideways movement in both directions.
